Aston Villa could soften potential Grealish departure by landing Liverpool player, reportedly set to go for £13m

Jack Grealish provided the difference on Tuesday night as he came off the bench to play a crucial part in England’s two goals against Germany. While Villa fans revelled in his cameo role, his future remains in doubt. But the Midlands club could soften his blow – with Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri.

Grealish, 25, continues to be linked with a move away from the Midlands. Manchester City are interested in completing a £100million deal for the Villa skipper. As he continues to shine alongside Raheem Sterling and another Man City target Harry Kane, a move becomes more realistic.

Villa have already brought in Emi Buendia. They have tried to bring in Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe. They need replacements to cover the loss of Grealish and Liverpool could offer a solution. It is claimed that Swiss Euro 2020 star Shaqiri is available for just £13million, as per The Mirror.

Should Villa go after Liverpool ace Shaqiri to soften Grealish blow?

Shaqiri, 29, has been in stunning form for Switzerland at Euro 2020. He has had a hand in three goals during four Euro 2020 outings, helping his country reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. Able to play on either flank, as an eight or a 10 – he offers the kind of versatility Grealish does.

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic rebuild is heating up

He offers Premier League experience, too. In 129 Premier League appearances, he has had a hand in 42 goals and at £13million – he is a bargain even if he does turn 30 soon. But his arrival at Villa would not only add another, massive attacking weapon to Dean Smith’s side.

But it also softens the blow of Grealish potentially going. If he plays in the 10 role, Shaqiri could combine with Buendia and Bertrand Traore either side and Ollie Watkins up top. Even without Grealish, that is an exciting front four. Villa have got to consider Shaqiri to soften the blow of Grealish potentially departing, given his price tag.
