Aston Villa cannot afford to lose Adomah ahead of promotion push

Middlesbrough are hoping to bring Albert Adomah back to the club in January, The Northern Echo reports.

In the summer, Boro wanted Adomah to bolster their promotion credentials and they have been linked with him again with the January transfer window approaching.

But Aston Villa managed Dean Smith, as quoted by The Birmingham Mail, has said: “I have no thoughts for Albert in January.

“He is an Aston Villa player, and I am enjoying working with him.”

This is a stance that Smith and Aston Villa must maintain throughout the January window.

Under Smith, the Villans have found a new lease of life and are pushing for the play-offs.

Adomah has played a crucial role in their recent resurgence, although injury has cost him his place to Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie.

But despite the form of El Ghazi, Bolasie and Jonathan Kodjia, Smith will still have a role for Adomah to fill.

Even if he is a back-up, the Ghana international has the quality needed to get Aston Villa out of the Championship.

Aston Villa cannot afford to lose him and especially not to a promotion rival such as Middlesbrough.
