Aston Villa can think about safe mid-table finish if Sarr joins new-look frontline

Aston Villa seem hell-bent on pushing on in the Premier League this season.

The club narrowly avoided slipping back into the Championship at the end of 2019/20, and that seems to be the club’s fuel for improvement.

The club have bought well in the transfer market so far.

Villa have brought in Emi Martinez, Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins and Betrand Traore, and they all (barring Traore who didn’t play) did well in the opening game against Sheffield United.

Martinez and Cash are solid defensive additions, but the additions of Watkins and Traore are particularly exciting.

And yesterday the club have were also reported (France Football) to be interested in Ismaila Sarr of Watford, and if Villa can sign the speedy Senegalese winger, fans are going to be in for a treat.

TBR’s View – Mid-table would beckon if Sarr joins the cavalry

At times last season, £25 milion player Sarr (BBC Sport) was electric for Watford and the clamour for him is quite understandable.

Villa pulling off a deal for him would be a massive statement from the club.

A frontline of Sarr, Watkins and Traore, with Jack Grealish and John McGinn providing support from behind, is a potential recipe for success.

The trio have pace in abundance and would likely cause defenders nightmares.

If the defence could be more solid this time around, then Villa’s potential firepower could make wins much easier to come by.
