Aston Villa can get the best out of ‘exceptional’ Jadon Sancho after Man United loan

Aston Villa are taking a big risk on deadline day as an agreement is close for the loan signing of Jadon Sancho.

The Villans are expected to remain busy right up until the 7pm deadline as Emiliano Martinez pushes to join Manchester United.

Unai Emery has strengthened with the arrival of forward Evann Guessand at Villa Park earlier this summer, but overall, the squad that narrowly missed out on Champions League football last term has remained relatively intact.

Jacob Ramsey’s departure to Newcastle United has been the biggest talking point at Aston Villa, as lingering concerns regarding PSR have restricted what business can be conducted.

However, David Ornstein reports Villa are closing in on an agreement to sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Man United, and the Englishman is expected to be the latest addition for Emery.

Jadon Sancho can be “exceptional” for Aston Villa

The 25-year-old enjoyed his most productive spell at Borussia Dortmund, but has since failed to replicate his Bundesliga form since returning to England with Man United.

During that period, Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Sancho, who rose through the ranks at Manchester City’s academy.

“I’ve said many times, it is not a regret. He decides. He’s doing really well,” Guardiola said to BBC Sport. Congratulations, he’s an exceptional player. He is a national team player with huge quality, doing really well in Dortmund.”

“We wanted him to stay, but he decided to leave, and when people decide to leave, all we can do is (let them) leave. I wish him all the best, except when he plays against us. No regrets at all. If he’s happy, I’m happy.”

Man United have received several offers for Sancho throughout the summer transfer window, but even when the club have agreed a deal, the player himself has opted to remain at Old Trafford.

He even turned down an offer from Chelsea – Sancho spent the season at Stamford Bridge last year but ultimately showed no interest in making a permanent switch.

Therefore, Emery has secured a remarkable coup for Villa; the player must really fancy his chances of resurrecting his fortunes at Villa Park this season.

Jadon Sancho is a risk for Aston Villa

Although Marcus Rashford managed to rediscover his best form in a Villa shirt last season, the chances of Sancho replicating this feat are questionable at best.

The Englishman did show glimpses of his Borussia Dortmund days when he was on loan at Chelsea, but never managed to fully establish himself in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Emery has been backed into a financial corner at Villa Park; the club is unable to sanction a big-money move for a forward who will elevate his attack to the next level.

However, should Sancho find his best form away from Man United, it would be a calculated move on Villa’s part, and perhaps this time around, the risk is worth taking.
