Aston Villa are one of a number of clubs across Europe in the hunt for promising Gaz Metan midfielder Darius Olaru, according to Romanian website GSP, via the Birmingham Mail.
They report that the 20-year-old Romanian’s agent has been in contact with Villa with an eye to bringing him in to boost their options in the engine room.
Arcadie Zaporojanu was quoted as saying: “I was in England. I gave Aston Villa a few references about him, figures and everything they needed.
“So far they have not made an official offer to Gaz Metan; they want to get as much information and make a clear idea.”

But Villa face competition from Borussia Dortmund, who are into the last 16 of the Champions League – where they will face Tottenham next month – for the 20-year-old’s signature.
Villa will feel confident they could offer Olaru more gametime that he’d get in Germany, but Dortmund do have a history of giving youth a chance and English flier Jadon Sancho is just the latest example.
Beating Dortmund to land Olaru would be an indication of how seriously Dean Smith’s new Villa Park regime is being taken beyond these shores and provide fans with hope that they can compete once more in the transfer market.
