Aston Villa starting to see genuine star quality from ex-Ajax man Anwar El Ghazi

The Villans took the 23-year-old on a season-long loan at the start of the season and he is really starting to hit top form.

Aston Villa roared into the Championship play-off places at the weekend following a 3-0 win over top-six rivals Middlesbrough.

Goals from Anwar El Ghazi, John McGinn and Albert Adomah handed the Villans their fourth win in succession.

Dean Smith’s men are finally starting to show the sort of form that the squad is capable of.

Wins over Derby, Birmingham and Forest came prior to Saturday’s win and achieving a play-off place now looks a real possibility.

It was the performance of left-winger El Ghazi that perhaps caught the eye on Saturday.

The 23-year-old is on a season-long loan from Lille and he finally drilled home to Villa fans exactly what he is capable of against Boro.

Prior to signing for the French outfit, El Ghazi was with Ajax.

23 goals and 16 assists prompted Lille into paying eight million euros for the winger, according to nrc.nl.

 

In 23 starts for the Villans, he has contributed five goals and three assists to the cause.

Of late he has started to show exactly what he is capable of, holding down the left wing spot.

Sadly for Villa, the chances of signing him permanently will almost certainly evaporate if they don’t get promoted.

Acc0rding to nrc.nl, El Ghazi only left Ajax due to a falling out with the manager at the time, Peter Bosz.

His form at the Amsterdam Arena was pretty impressive and of late Villa fans have started to see a glimpse of such form.

El Ghazi is showing genuine star quality and Villa fans will hope it can continue for the remaining eight games of the season.
