Aston Villa have reportedly had a bid accepted by Hellas Verona for Belgian forward Cyril Ngonge.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Villans have reached an agreement with the Serie A side for the versatile 23-year-old attacker.

Villa reportedly made an offer worth €10million – around £8.7million – for Ngonge, who Verona are said to have signed for free a year ago.

However, while Verona have apparently accepted the Villans’ offer, the player himself doesn’t seem to be quite so keen on a switch to the Premier League.

The report says Ngonge would like to stay in Serie A as he’s doing well in the Italian top flight. He’d apparently prefer a switch to long-time suitors Fiorentina.

Aston Villa target Cyril Ngonge has scored some sensational goals

Aston Villa have enjoyed a superb first half of the season, sitting second in the Premier League table and just three points off the summit.

In addition, Unai Emery’s charges are in the latter stages of the Europa Conference League, and will get their FA Cup campaign underway this month.

There’s scope for Villa to bolster their ranks and bring in more players to aid their pursuit of silverware this season, and Ngonge seems to fit the bill.

He’s a young, talented and versatile attacker who has scored some spectacular goals over the years.

For instance, he scored a superb overhead kick to help Verona draw 3-3 at Udinese in December.

And back in 2021, Ngonge scored the most beautifully nonchalant scorpion kick you’ll probably ever see in your life.

With Verona having reportedly accepted Villa’s bid, they must now try to convince Ngonge that they’re a good shout for his next career move.

It shouldn’t be particularly hard, to be honest. They’re challenging for the Premier League title and will fancy their chances both in Europe and in the FA Cup.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Hopefully there are some more concrete developments.
