Ashley Young takes to Twitter with his first message for Aston Villa fans since sealing club return
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Ashley Young on a one-year deal.
The 35-year-old returns to Villa Park following stints at Manchester United and Inter Milan.
According to Sky Sports, the deal has an option of a further one-year extension.
Young, who turns 36 next month, won the Serie A last season with Inter.
However, he has opted to return to the Premier League, having also reportedly spoken to Watford and Burnley.
Ashley Young’s winning mentality
“It feels amazing to be back, it feels like I’ve not left,” Young told the Villa media team, via Sky Sports.
“You can see how much the club has evolved since my time and I’m just ready to get down to work now.
“When I heard of the interest from Aston Villa, it was straight to my agent ‘get a deal done, whatever you can, get a deal done.’
“Watching from afar, seeing the squad, how well they did last season, how well they’ve been doing.
“The staff, the manager, how the players want to play for him; they’ve got that hunger, he’s got that desire, that winning mentality.
“And, for me, I know I’ve got that winning mentality.”
As well as speaking to the Villa media team, Young had a message for the claret and blue faithful:
The Athletic claims that Dean Smith sees Young as potential cover for Matt Targett and Matty Cash.
The Villans were reportedly eager to sign a player who can play on both sides if needed.
They are also considering keeping Frederic Guilbert as back-up next season following his loan at Strasbourg.

He then left Villa and joined Manchester United for £17m, making over 250 appearances for the Red Devils.
Young subsequently left Old Trafford in 2020 and joined Inter, where he won the Serie A title last season.
