Ashley Cole has told TalkSPORT that Arsenal need to hire Carlo Ancelotti as Unai Emery’s replacement after the Italian was sacked by Serie A side Napoli on Tuesday night – hours after a win over Belgian side Genk.
Ancelotti was relieved of his duties despite guiding his side into the last 16 of the Champions League, following a 4-0 win over Genk. It has seen Everton and Arsenal heavily linked with a move for the former Chelsea boss.
Reports suggest that Ancelotti would rather a move to Arsenal over Everton, but that the Gunners are unsure over hiring the 60-year-old boss. Instead, they want a former player in either Mikel Arteta or Patrick Vieira.
Cole, who left Arsenal to join Chelsea where he worked under Ancelotti, believes the former Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain manager would be perfect for Arsenal.

“He’s won so much in his career with Milan as a player and of course as a coach, he’s someone who when he talks everyone listens,” Cole said. “I think it would be great if he went to Arsenal.
“They’ve got the attacking threat, they just need to address the defence and get more of a structure and a philosophy on how to play with the ball and without the ball. And I think Carlo would definitely do a great job there.”
TBR’s view – Would Ancelotti be a good appointment for Arsenal?
Without a doubt. Ancelotti is a top, top manager, that has won four league titles throughout his career with some of the biggest clubs in European football. Arsenal’s problem is in defence, and Ancelotti would sort that.
He is the kind of calibre that would entice Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay and get the players playing for him, and he would bring in the best players in the world – due to his name. Getting Ancelotti would be a top appointment.
