Ashley Cole told Sky Sports’s live post-match coverage of Arsenal’s win away at Wolves (broadcast on 4/7; 19:36) that he is extremely excited about Bukayo Saka’s potential after the youngster bagged a well-taken goal in the 2-0 win.
Saka has been a revelation for the Gunners this season. And he handed the fans a huge boost during the week when the club confirmed on their official website that he had signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates.
He celebrated the news by scoring a brilliant goal at Molineux. And following the game, Cole suggested that it was a fantastic piece of news to get him tied down to a fresh deal.
“He feels that Arsenal is his home,” he told Sky Sports. “He’s a young kid. The group they’ve got around him with extra young players is making him feel very welcome and at home.
“I bet Arsenal fans are buzzing that he’s signed. He definitely looks one for the future, for sure.”
TBR View: What is easy to forget about Saka
Saka has played such a prominent role for Arsenal this season that it has become so easy to forget that he is just 18 years of age.
He has made 34 appearances in all competitions, and has contributed nine assists across the Premier League and Europa League. He has also bagged a handful of goals.
And what makes Saka’s season all the more impressive is the fact that he has been tasked with playing in a variety of roles for Arteta’s side.
Saturday marked the first time that he had started on the right of the front three. And he still managed to make a key impact.
It is little surprise that many, including Cole, see his new deal as a major coup for the Gunners.
