Tottenham Hotspur finished the international transfer window without a new centre-back signing.
Many names had been linked with a move to north London in the run-up to Monday’s deadline – Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan perhaps being the most mentioned.
But Spurs did not finish the international window with the flourish fans were perhaps hoping for.

The club could yet make a move for Swansea City star Joe Rodon, who became linked with on deadline day, but it seems the clubs are very far apart in the negotiations according to reports.
Spurs are said to value the Welshman at £7 million while Swansea supposedly want around £18 million (Evening Standard).
It’s looking likely Spurs will have to make do with what they’ve got – meaning current centre-back pairing Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have a golden chance to truly prove themselves good enough to Jose Mourinho.
TBR’s View – A potentially huge period for Dier and Sanchez
One gets the feeling that Dier has just kind of been filling in at centre-half until a marquee name comes in.

But this is his chance to show Mourinho that he can nail down the position long-term. There are many options at holding midfield now meaning Dier – who signed for £4 million back in 2014 (BBC Sport) – could really do with a strong run in defence to stay in the starting XI.
Sanchez, who cost £42 million from Ajax in 2017 (BBC Sport) has been great for Spurs at the back for a while now. He was caught cold against Manchester United, but that error aside, the Colombian has looked pretty solid in 2020.
With Toby Alderweireld having not played in the league since the opening defeat to Everton, he pair look set to play together for the next few months and their form could be key to whether Mourinho decides he wants to press ahead for a new man at the back.
Mourinho will surely be watching very closely to see how they get on.
