As Ollie Watkins reveals Premier League dream, Leeds have to make their move

Brentford forward, Ollie Watkins, has revealed his dream of playing Premier League football with Brentford.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Watkins says he hopes to be playing top-flight football with the Bees next season.

“The dream is to play with Brentford in the Premier League and hopefully that can happen,” Watkins said.

However, Brentford currently sit fifth in the table. That means a playoff win is their most likely route to success which, of course, means nothing is certain.

But when pressed on if he’d consider a move away from the club to realise his dream, Watkins admitted he didn’t know what would come.

“Look, I don’t know what’s around the corner but I am really happy at Brentford,” he added.

Leeds have to move if Brentford stall

While Brentford sit in fifth, things are looking far rosier for Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa has his Whites team sitting five points clear of third-placed Fulham in second. It’s looking increasingly likely, then, that Leeds will finally win promotion.

And if they do, making a move for Watkins – if the Bees stay down – could be a vital piece of business.

Ever since losing Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht, the Whites have lacked a certain potency and snap in their attack. Roofe was integral to their high pressing style and, crucially, added goals as well.

Watkins would bring those things to Elland Road. He has already bagged 22 times in the Championship this season.

Having his ten in the last two campaigns, it shows a clear improvement from the striker.

Prepare for a battle

Leeds may well be the ideal destination for Watkins but Bielsa must be prepared to fight for his man.

The likes of Crystal Palace and Sheffield United have previously registered an interest in the Brentford man. It seems highly likely, then, that those clubs would be sniffing once again if Brentford don’t win promotion.

However, Premier League Leeds are a massive draw. They remain a huge club as things stand. Therefore, the addition of top-flight football will only do more to entice players such as Watkins to Elland Road.
