Newcastle United’s season is not going to plan. The Magpies are currently bottom of the Premier League table following a 1-0 loss to Brighton at the weekend. The result, another home loss at St James’ Park, has made it clear that Rafa Benitez has a relegation battle on his hands.
But whilst the Newcastle players battle the drop, one of their loaned out talents is looking at a potential promotion push.
This summer, Newcastle decided to let Daniel Barlaser head out on loan. The Turkish youth international, who spent the second half of last season at Crewe Alexandra, was snapped up by Accrington Stanley this summer as they prepared for a season in League One.

The newly-promoted side have taken many by surprise with their form. Stanley are currently fourth in the table, level on points with Newcastle’s bitter rivals Sunderland in third. At the weekend they defeated Peterborough United, who are currently second, and teams are having to take their promotion bid seriously after recent form.
Barlaser has been key to that. Mostly used as a winger during his time with the Newcastle development squad, the 21-year-old has played most of his football in central midfield for Accrington.
He has excelled in the role and become a regular starter for his new team. Fans will hope he can do what other talented youngsters have failed to do at Newcastle in recent years and cement a place in the first-team.
