Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Hull City forward, Jarrod Bowen but it’s West Ham who should be considering a bid.
The young attacker has been in sensational form again this season. Following on from firing in 22 times last term, he’s already hit the net 16 times in the Championship this season.
That form has seen Newcastle reportedly considering a £20m move for Bowen. Steve Bruce is keen to add goals to his team, with summer signing, Joelinto, struggling for form.
However, with the Magpies keen, surely it would make sense for West Ham to join the race to sign Bowen too.
The Hammers have picked up somewhat under David Moyes but are struggling with a number of issues themselves.
Bowen, then, could solve those problems for Moyes and his team.
Goal threat from wide areas
The Hammers are struggling with a number of injuries at the moment. In wide areas, especially, the likes of Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko haven’t played nearly as much as they’d like.
That’s where Bowen could step into the fold. He plays all across the front for Hull but is better coming in from either the left or right.
His goal record in the last 18 months speaks for itself. It’s hard, therefore, to see Bowen not being able to translate that form into the Premier League.
A snip in today’s market
In a time when fees are being blown out of proportion, £20m for Bowen doesn’t sound too bad.
The summer months showed that this was the sort of fee a team needs to pay for a top Championship striker. Both Oli McBurnie and Neal Maupay left their relative clubs for similar amounts.
Bowen, therefore, fits right into the mould of top-end Championship forwards.
January can be a hard time to find the right player for the right price. But with West Ham needing to back Moyes with some funds at the very least, Jarrod Bowen would seem to be the perfect fit for the Hammers.
