‘As good as I’ve seen’: Jamie Redknapp hails impact of Sergio Reguilon

Tottenham left-back Sergio Regulion is ‘as good a left-back as he’s seen in a long time’, according to former Spurs midfielder, Jamie Redknapp.

The Spanish full-back has made a brilliant start to life under Jose Mourinho and has quickly established himself as the number one choice down the left side.

Signed from Real Madrid in the summer for just shy of £30m, Reguilon is one of the more modest earners at the club, with Spotrac claiming Reguilon earns around the £48k-a-week mark.

Despite those relatively low wages, Redknapp believes Reguilon is quality for Spurs and is making a big difference, along with some others.

“Reguilon is as good a left back as I’ve seen in a long time. Sanchez isn’t even playing but he’s got lots of international caps. Dier, England centre back, Alderweireld, centre back for the number one team in the world. They’ve just signed the young man Rodon who has got international cap,” Redknapp told the Pitch to Post Podcast.

Reguilon has proven an ideal player for the likes of Harry Kane. As well as being able to provide pinpoint crosses, Reguilon’s surges forward have allowed Kane to drop deep while the left-back bombs forward.

Spurs continue their season this weekend with the North London Derby, as they look to maintain their spot at the summit.

With all eyes on Gareth Bale really, it is the addition of the other Real Madrid player in Reguilon, who has caught the eye more.

Everything a modern left-back should be, Reguilon’s form has been exceptional thus far. And given the Danny Rose debacle, it’s dropped nicely for Mourinho how the Spaniard has fitted in.

Jamie Redknapp is right in his assessment. Reguilon really is as good as anyone in the league at the moment.
