'As good as anyone in this league': Jamie Carragher hails Arsenal player's display v Villa
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has waxed lyrical about Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe following his impressive display against Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners ran out 3-1 winners over the Villans at the Emirates Stadium.
And Smith Rowe was in sensational form for Arsenal, registering a goal and and assist for the hosts.
The 21-year-old delivered a corner kick in the 23rd minute, which Thomas Partey headed home.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then netted late on in first-half injury time to give Arsenal a 2-0 half-time lead.
Smith Rowe made it 3-0 just before the hour with an effort that came off Tyrone Mings and clipped the post before going into the net.
Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey then scored a late consolation for Dean Smith’s charges, but it was too little too late.
Carragher, commentating on Sky Sports, said (9:19pm, 22/10): “He is as good as anyone in this league when he is running with the ball.
“Can use both feet, never looks like he is out of control, the pace with which he can run with the ball at his feet, we don’t see it too often.”
Smith Rowe is one of the best players to graduate from the Hale End setup in recent years.
Alongside Bukayo Saka, Smith Rowe has cemented his place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.
He had to bide his time at the Emirates Stadium, with just two Premier League appearances prior to last Christmas.
However, Arteta finally named him in the starting XI against Chelsea on Boxing Day – his full Premier League debut – and the rest is history.
