As European sides eye Christensen, should Tottenham be in the hunt too?

Andreas Christensen has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The Danish centre-half emerged as one of the Premier League’s top young players under Antonio Conte, but he has featured very little under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

Christensen now finds himself behind David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger, but is a transfer target for Juventus and Borussia Dortmund according to The Daily Mail.

Having let Medhi Benatia leave for Qatar, Juve are after cover at the back and see a loan move for Christensen as an option.

One other team that should be looking to muscle in on Christensen though is Tottenham Hotspur.

Alderweireld departure looms

Spurs will be acutely aware that Toby Alderweireld’s release clause will be as low as £25 million in the summer.

That is the case after the club opted to extend the player’s contract by another year earlier this month.

That decision may have meant keeping him beyond January, but the chances are he’ll be snapped up by another club at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Spurs will therefore need a replacement and Christensen could be ideal, with Jan Vertonghen ageing.

Christensen is still only 22. He impressed greatly last term and got regular game time for Chelsea, suggesting he would be able to cut it for Spurs.

Like Alderweireld, he is a ball-playing defender. His potential is vast and he and Davinson Sanchez could be an amazing long-term pairing for the north Londoners.

Perhaps the club should instruct fellow Dane Christian Eriksen to have a word.
