Aston Villa have struggled in a number of positions this season. One, in particular, has been left-back. Welsh international Neil Taylor has been in poor form. It left Steve Bruce having to use Alan Hutton out of position on the left of the defence.

It has been a massive problem for Aston Villa all season and a solution will surely be sought in January.

Meanwhile, a player that Aston Villa effectively gave up on in 2015 is now the starting left wing-back for the Championship table-toppers.

Sheffield United’s incredible run of form has seen them move to the top of the league. One of the key components has been the consistent form of left-back Enda Stevens.

Aston Villa signed the defender from Shamrock Rovers in 2012. However, after loan spells at Notts County, Doncaster Rovers and Northampton Town, they moved him on. He made just a handful of games for Aston Villa before being released and joining Portsmouth.

He went on to become one of the best players in League Two and when his contract was up at Fratton Park, the Blades swooped in.

The 28-year-old is now looking every part the perfect Championship left-back. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have had to put up with the likes of Taylor, Jordan Amavi and Aly Cissokho.

A little faith in Stevens three years ago and Aston Villa might not be in their left-back predicament today.
