Arteta to achieve something that even Wenger couldn't: 3 bold Arsenal predictions for 2022

Arsenal are set to end 2021 either in or very close to the top four and that is a positive sign after everything Mikel Arteta has had to go through this year.

The Gunners haven’t really had a lot of joy this year apart from when their 10-game unbeaten run began in September. Most Arsenal fans are looking forward to saying goodbye to what has been a horrible year, and as we near 2022, there is a lot of optimism in and around the Emirates stadium.

Arteta seems to have turned a corner after his side’s horrific start to the season. Arsenal haven’t really done anything extraordinary just yet, but it’s very clear to see that they are building something and if it works out, they could achieve great things in the very near future.

Here are our three bold predictions for Arsenal in 2022…

Newcastle United's January Transfer Window Dilemma

The return of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Gabon star has been stripped of his captaincy and dropped from the squad due to a disciplinary breach. All directions point towards Aubameyang leaving the Gunners in January, but the big question is who can afford him?

Even if Arsenal agree to sell him for a very small fee, not many clubs in the world would be prepared to fork out £250,000-a-week for a player who has been really poor over the last 18 months. That could force the Gunners to retain his services, which could eventually open the door for a return to the squad.

Aubameyang has been a top-class striker for the better part of the last decade. There’s still a player in him and it’s up to Arteta to get the best out of him. We believe that the Arsenal boss will give him another chance in 2022.

Captain Martin

Since Arteta stripped Aubameyang of his captaincy, Alexandre Lacazette has taken over the armband. However, the Frenchman is not the club captain yet. Arsenal are expected to name a new skipper before the start of next season.

Arteta is spoiled for choices at the moment. Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kieran Tierney, Granit Xhaka and probably even Bukayo Saka are potential options for the armband. However, we believe it will be Martin Odegaard.

The ex-Real Madrid man is the current captain of the Norway national team and he has already been branded by Arteta as a ‘natural leader‘. He has been brilliant as well for the Gunners in recent weeks, and it won’t be a surprise at all to see him become the next Arsenal skipper.

Arsenal will win the Carabao Cup

The Gunners smashed five past Sunderland a few days ago and made their way into the semi-final of the league cup. Up next for Arteta is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are among the favourites to win the competition.

However, Klopp usually tends to play a weakened team in domestic cup competitions and that could play into Arsenal’s hands. The Gunners have looked good so far in the Carabao Cup, and two more good displays will open the Wembley doors for them.

We believe that the Gunners will win the Carabao Cup, which would be absolutely amazing for Arteta as it’s a feat that even Arsene Wenger couldn’t achieve during his 22-year spell as Arsenal manager.
