Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on the improvement Emile Smith Rowe has shown this season compared to the last one.

The 21-year-old Englishman has scored six goals and has picked up two assists for the Gunners this term. He has arguably been their best player, and without him, Arsenal struggle to get going, as we saw in the game against Everton at Goodison Park a few days ago.

Arsenal fans are hoping that Smith Rowe will be fit for the game against Southampton this afternoon. He has been involved in full training this week, which means he could be ready to start today, but we’ll only know once the team news comes out.

Arteta was quizzed about the improvement he has seen in Smith Rowe and the Arsenal boss heaped praise on the youngster.

Arteta: Smith Rowe has been a key player for Arsenal

The Arsenal boss said in his press conference yesterday, as per The Independent: “He has improved the dynamic and the attacking threat of the team with his movement and the way he links and finds relationships on the pitch.

“His threat on goal this season has been much, much better, with the capacity that he has to create chances, to open spaces for other team-mates, and he’s been a key player.

“Hopefully we can sustain that over time.”

Speaking about his fitness, Arteta said, as per Arsenal.com: “Emile has trained today and he was feeling much better after losing him for the last game and hopefully he will be available to play.”

TBR View:

Arsenal really missed Smith Rowe at Everton last Monday. The Gunners lacked the energy and drive that the youngster usually brings to a game, which proved to be costly for them in the end.

There’s a good chance that Smith Rowe will start today, especially if the news of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing training yesterday is true.

Smith Rowe on the left and Bukayo Saka on the right made Arsenal a really dangerous team during their 10-game unbeaten run. Arsenal fans will be hoping to see the two youngsters start out wide again today, and if they have a good game, the Gunners will likely pick up the win.
