‘We will announce it’: Mikel Arteta has just given Arsenal fans some encouraging contract news

Mikel Arteta has just given Arsenal fans the very latest update on William Saliba and a new contract.

The Gunners are hoping to tie Saliba down to fresh terms after seeing the defender enjoy a blistering start to the season. He’s become a fixture in the back four and is now widely regarded by Arsenal fans as the best central defender at the club.

However, Arsenal are keen to sort a new contract with other admirers looking on. And speaking about the issue to Sky, Mikel Arteta says the club are working towards it in the best way possible.

“I don’t know. It’s something that obviously everyone in the club is managing. Obviously they know my input and we always work together on that, so whenever they are ready to do that we will announce it,” Arteta told Sky.

Saliba is thought to be among a number of players Arsenal want to get new contract sorted for. The likes of Bukayo Saka are high on their list too, while Gabriel Martinelli could also get fresh terms.

The Gunners take on Liverpool this weekend knowing a win will move them 14 points clear of the Reds. As things stand, Arsenal sit top of the pile, with Manchester City due to play Southampton today.

TBR’s View: Saliba New Contract A Must For Arsenal

Some deals just need sorting ASAP and this is one of them for Arsenal. Saliba has been simply superb this season and Arsenal can’t afford to let the door open even in the slightest for other clubs to fancy their own move.

Saliba will surely want to stay as well. There is no reason for him to move on as things stand and there’s a big chance he ends up a Premier League winner as it stands anyway.

For Arsenal, this is exciting times and a new contract for Saliba would be cracking news.
