Arteta opens door for re-signing Wilshere at Arsenal, with seven-word response
Mikel Arteta has opened the door for Arsenal to possibly re-sign Jack Wilshere, with a seven-word response in his latest press conference.
Wilshere, 29, has been training with Arsenal having failed to find a new club. He has also been coaching some of Arsenal’s youngsters.
The ex-England star has also been working more in the media, enjoying a regular role on TalkSPORT. His future in football, though, is unclear.
The Gunners are still without Granit Xhaka, while Mo Elneny is expected to leave the club at the end of the season – with his contract expiring in June.
Arsenal could do with a central midfielder, and have been strongly linked with a move for Renato Sanches. Arteta was asked if he could sign Wilshere.
Wilshere is just two games shy of reaching 200 appearances for the Gunners – and Arteta has opened the door, delivering a seven-word verdict.
“We know the qualities that Jack has,” Arteta responded in his press conference on Wednesday, as per Football London.
Arteta on Wilshere: Could Gunners really bring in Gunners icon?
Wilshere is already well-liked at Arsenal and is clearly a part of the team, given that he is training with them. He still boasts plenty of quality.
But can Arsenal risk giving him a contract and playing him in games? Championship side Bournemouth chose not to last summer.
The Cherries did not extend his contract. But at Arsenal, he might be good on a free – if he is aware he will simply act as a last resort.
