Arteta is in love with Premier League player and 'convinced he is perfect' for Arsenal, Romano says

Fabrizio Romano has told The Arsenal Lounge that Mikel Arteta thinks Manchester City star Raheem Sterling would be “perfect” for The Gunners.

Sterling, 26, is already incredibly experienced for his age. A three-time Premier League winner, he already has 438 club games under his belt.

Not only that, but Sterling has 72 caps for England – an incredible tally at just 26. He will not be used to his intermittent game time at City, now.

That is what he is getting. City boast an embarrassment of riches on the flanks – Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and more.

Sterling has played 17 times this season, but started just eight games. With his contract ending in 2023, it seems the next two windows could be crucial.

Unless he signs a new deal, the Premier League champions will have to sell him to get some cash. Romano says Arsenal are desperately keen.

“For Sterling, it is about the contract. Man City have been clear with him – extend the contract, or we will try to sell you in January or next summer.

“It’s true, Arsenal would love to have him. Mikel Arteta is in love, he is convinced he would be perfect. Man City want more than £50million.”

Romano on Sterling: Could Manchester City star join Arsenal?

Arsenal have a massive job on their hands to convince the England star if they are to go after him in January – or next summer.

Sterling has already admitted himself he would quite like to play abroad at some stage in his career. Barcelona are continually being linked.

But if Arsenal are to beat Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta’s former side to the signature of Sterling – then some serious work will have to be done.

Plus, they will have to tempt Sterling with a big financial offer – largely because Arsenal currently lack Champions League football.
