Arteta has been trying 19-year-old Arsenal prospect out in three different positions in training
Mikel Arteta is trying Miguel Azeez in a variety of midfield positions in Arsenal training, according to Football.London.
Azeez gave an interview to the outlet about his development and his desire to play more regular football next season.
The signs are that Arsenal will be in next season’s Europa League, which may give Arteta a chance to hand prospects such as Azeez gametime.
The 19-year-old says he can play as a deeper playmaker, a box-to-box midfielder and a number ten having worked on the roles in practice.
Arteta varying Azeez’s role in Arsenal training
Their report reads: “Versatility is perhaps what makes Azeez such an exciting prospect.
“In a similar manner to how Birmingham City looked to develop Jude Bellingham, Arsenal have resisted the temptation to restrict the 19-year-old to one position on the pitch, instead training him as a six, an eight and a 10.
“Azeez has relished this freedom and views this ability to play multiple roles as one of the most prominent strengths in his game.“
He said: “I feel like it’s important to play different positions so you understand what other players need from you when you back into that position.”
Martin Keown said back in January he had heard Arsenal coaches have been supremely impressed by teenager Azeez behind the scenes.
Being able to play a variety of roles will help him get into the team, but if he wants to play regularly next term, surely a loan beckons.
A spell at Portsmouth did not work out as planned but it is all about sealing the correct next move.
