Arsene Wenger was clearly not happy when Arsenal missed out on Layvin Kurzawa before

The Gunners were linked with a move for the player when at Monaco.

Arsenal have reportedly made an offer for PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa. According to Spanish publication SPORT, the Gunners and Napoli have presented ‘interesting offers’ to the 27-year-old’s entourage with Barcelona also keen on his signature.

The free agent is likely to be a hot commodity this summer amid the global financial situation following the current worldwide health crisis.

Arsenal fans, of course, will remember that they were linked with Kurzawa before. In January, it was claimed that Unai Emery was a fan.

However, Arsenal interest in Kurzawa goes much further back. Indeed, it seems it was something of a sore subject for former manager Arsene Wenger.

As reported by the Daily Mail in 2014, Arsenal were scouting the player ahead of a potential £15 million swoop on his former club AS Monaco in the summer of 2015.

But Arsenal did not make a move for the player. The Gunners were seemingly keen on both Kurzawa and future Manchester United star Anthony Martial. However, as Wenger told the Arsenal website in September 2015, he believed Monaco when they said neither player was for sale.

“Monaco’s statement was always that two players, Martial and Layvin Kurzawa, would not move. I thought they would maintain that but in the end both of them moved.”

In the end, Monaco sold Martial to United and Kurzawa headed to PSG in a reported (Football.London) £20 million deal.

It seems that Wenger believed his former club at face value when they made it clear Kurzawa would not be going anywhere.

Now it seems that Arsenal could rectify that error five years later.
