Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger has compared one current Gunners star to Dennis Bergkamp.
Mikel Arteta has built a really competitive squad at the Emirates, hasn’t he? Arsenal are challenging for both, the Premier League and the Champions League this season, and they can’t do that without having top players in their side.
Wenger is no stranger to having a team full of incredible footballers. The legendary Frenchman had some of the best players in the world at his disposal back in the day.
The former Gunners manager knows an incredible talent when he sees one, and he has just compared a current Arsenal star to Bergkamp.

Arsene Wenger compares Arsenal player to Dennis Bergkamp
Dennis Bergkamp is one of Arsenal’s greatest-ever players.
The Dutchman, who is a part of the Premier League Hall of Fame, spent over a decade at Arsenal from 1995 to 2006. He played 422 games, scored 120 goals and provided 103 assists in all competitions.
Bergkamp was just a joy to watch every week for Arsenal, and although it’s never fair to compare a legend to a current player, there are certain similarities you can look at.
Arsene Wenger, who managed Bergkamp for about 10 years, knew all about his strengths. He made the Dutchman a better player too.
Now, he has compared one current Arsenal star to the great Gunners number 10 – Martin Odegaard.
In an interview with Freddie Ljungberg, the Swede asked Wenger if he sees any similarities between his side back in the day and Arteta’s team now.
“Do you see any echoes of your team in today’s team? For example, let’s say: Saka-Martinelli, Pires-Ljungberg,” he asked.
Wenger replied: “Yeah, there’s a lot. Odegaard-Bergkamp, you know?!”
Another Arsenal player has been compared to Bergkamp
Having one player like Dennis Bergkamp is magnificent, but imagine having two!
Arsene Wenger has compared Martin Odegaard to the legendary Dutchman, and you can see similarities between the two in terms of vision and creativity.
Arsenal, however, have another player who is similar to Bergkamp – not with respect to creativity or vision but in terms of movement and positioning.
That player is Kai Havertz, and current Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is the one who compared him to Bergkamp.
“I see a bit of Dennis Bergkamp, Robin Van Persie, [Dimitar] Berbatov kind of player (in Havertz),” Tuchel said.
“He can play in the half position because he has good runs, but also feels free from the nine and creates overload to one side.”
