Arsene Wenger has told BeIN Sports that the expectations and pressure on Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino are unfair, having experienced it himself at Arsenal towards the end of his tenure.
Pochettino has overseen a dismal start to the 2019-20 campaign. Spurs have managed just three wins all season from 12 league and cup encounters. Last week, they conceded 10 goals to Bayern Munich and Brighton.
Spurs were expected to be challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title, but instead they are doubtful to even finish in the top four places of the Premier League after winning only three of their eight league games.
Arsenal legend Wenger hs claimed that Pochettino is a victim of his own success, with the expectation and pressure from pundits and fans alike now weighing Spurs and the Argentine down – after finishing in the top four consecutively for four years.

“I think he has done very well,” Wenger said. “When he came to Tottenham, he slowly built them up with a young generation. Every year, people want something more from you. I experienced that at Arsenal.
“For 20 consecutive years we were in the top four. In the end, it is not enough. These days, you get in the Champions League, people are very happy. No matter how good a job you have done, after four or five years, you must show you can do more.
“He is at that stage.”
TBR’s view – Is Pochettino the victim of his own success?
Ultimately, the Tottenham side have overperformed throughout the last few seasons to finish in the top four and rival the likes of Manchester City and Leicester City for their Premier League titles.
Overperforming for so long, Spurs fans have grown to expect their side performing above their weight. Now, the north Londoners are struggling to reach those dizzy heights, and that makes Pochettino the victim of his own success.
