Arsene Wenger has told Omnisport, as quoted by Yahoo Sport, that Arsenal will struggle to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title – claiming only Manchester City are equipped enough to battle Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool currently sit at the top of the Premier League table after eight games played, winning every single match. The Reds have scored a huge 20 goals, and conceded just six times. They are already eight points clear of Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a second defeat of the season on Sunday afternoon, beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Etihad. City sit on 16 points in second, while Arsenal have crept up the table into third place on 15 points.
With the Gunners just a point behind a depleted City, there have been suggestions that Arsenal can break into that top two but Wenger has dismissed their title credentials – claiming Liverpool have too much for City, never mind Arsenal.

“At the moment you can’t look too much at the position because the points difference is very small,” Wenger said. “You draw, you’re seventh; you win a game, you’re third.
“I don’t think [they can challenge for the title] at the moment on what I’ve seen. Liverpool are too far ahead for everybody else. Manchester City looks to have the best potential to fight against Liverpool, but as long as you are not too far away, you can hope.”
TBR’s view – Can Arsenal join the title race?
If Arsenal are to join the title race, Unai Emery finally needs to work out his best side. That means figuring out who is best centre-backs are, getting Alexandre Lacazette into the side after injury – and picking Kieran Tierney at left-back.
The Spanish boss also needs to make Nicolas Pepe return to the form that saw him score 23 goals from the wing last season. If the Gunners do all that, then they could push themselves into second. But to rival Liverpool is a bridge too far.
