Arsenal’s Premier League prize money revealed

Arsenal have won the Premier League title for the first time since 2004.

Not since Arsene Wenger oversaw the first and only ‘invincible’ season in Premier League history have the Gunners been champions of English football, but a 1-0 win over Burnley on Monday night saw Mikel Arteta make history as Manchester City failed to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday.

After the north Londoners made history, Adam Williams – Head of Football Finance and Governance Content at GRV Media – told TBR Football how much Arsenal will receive in prize money for winning the Premier League title.

Exclusive: Arsenal can expect to bank roughly £180m for winning the Premier League title

Williams said: “Almost all of Arsenal’s prize money this season is locked in already. Each place in the Premier League is worth – roughly – £2.6m, so the difference between finishing first and second is only negligible.

“Last season, Liverpool earned just shy of £175m in total for winning the league. That is made up of six pots:

“We know the Premier League’s domestic TV deal is worth about 4% more this season than last, and my estimate would be that the Premier League’s overall revenue will have risen by similar, taking into account new commercial deals and some growth in international rights. So, all that said, I’d expect Arsenal to earn about £180m if they win the Premier League.”

Williams – who also covered a link between Wrexham and Arsenal recently – continued: “The only variable is how much the Premier League’s own costs, administrative, legal and so on, have risen, because those expenses are funded from central revenue. But as a baseline, I’d say £180m won’t be too far out.

“Then, there are the commercial benefits Arsenal will reap if they win a Premier League and Champions League double, but that’s a story for another time.”
