Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s performance for the Gunners on Sunday was reminiscent of Thierry Henry, according to Optus Sport pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor.
The 31-year-old, who has usually been deployed on the left flank in recent months, was selected to lead the Arsenal line in Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Leeds at the Emirates Stadium.
Aubameyang went on to score a hat-trick, helping Mikel Arteta’s charges establish a four-goal lead and run out 4-2 winners over the Elland Road side.

As well as his three goals, the Gabon international recorded his highest total of shots in a Premier League game this season (5) and his highest total of touches in the opposition box (9) too.
Aubameyang often drifted out to the left wing, linking up with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard in a dangerous front four which will have given Arteta food for thought.
“I’m really happy for him, he has had a tough season, got a lot of stick after he signed his contract, and now he is showing the form that got him that contract and Arsenal really rely on him,” Agbonlahor told Optus Sport.
“It was Thierry Henry performance today from Aubameyang. He was playing centre-forward but drifting out to the left, and I think that position suits him more.”
TBR View:
It was a great day for Aubameyang on Sunday, looking back to his best, scoring a hat-trick in a position that many fans have wanted to see him back in for a while, and best of all, looking happy.
A comparison with Henry, a player of the highest calibre and of course one of the Invincibles, is testament to just how good Auba was against Marcelo Bielsa’s side – long may it continue.
