Could the remontada be on at Arsenal?

For months, it looked as though Gunners duo Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi were on the way out of the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil did not play a single minute in the Premier League or FA Cup for Arsenal following the resumption of English football in June, a back injury cited as the issue.

Guendouzi, meanwhile, was frozen out at the Emirates Stadium in wake of an incident with Brighton striker Neal Maupay towards the end of their Premier League clash on 20 June.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has also gone on record to say “everybody is going to have the same opportunities” this coming season.

Ozil was a surprise starter in Saturday’s 3-2 friendly defeat at home to Aston Villa and, according to The Sun, could feature against Fulham when the new campaign gets under way.

The outlet claimed that Arteta is resigned to the 31-year-old seeing out his contract, which runs out next summer, and could use him in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 against the league’s lesser lights.

As for Guendouzi, who has been on France Under-21 duty, he tagged Arsenal in his latest social media post, with the caption “let’s go back to work”.

Cue Ozil and his teammate exchanging messages in the replies:

Could there be some surprises in store for the Arsenal fanbase this Saturday, when the Premier League returns with the Gunners away at Fulham?
