Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard has sent a message to Takehiro Tomiyasu after the defender’s recent injury blow.

Takehiro Tomiyasu had been enjoying a run in the Arsenal side before picking up an injury against Wolves.

The 25-year-old had started four consecutive games in the Premier League beforehand, registering one assist along the way.

But Mikel Arteta confirmed that Tomiyasu has suffered a calf injury after the win over Luton on Tuesday and will be out for a while.

There have been suggestions the Japanese defender will miss the festive period of fixtures.

Now Tomiyasu has taken to Instagram and admitted he’s ‘sick of being injured’.

He wrote: “I’m sick of being injured but I believe this is the opportunity to be much stronger.”

And Martin Odegaard replied beneath the post with a couple of emojis in a show of support for his teammate.

It’s a cruel blow for Tomiyasu after the defender was just beginning to find a decent run of form.

He’s mainly been used as a squad option during his time at Arsenal, providing cover across the back four.

But his recent displays had earned him a spot in Arteta’s side at right-back.

Of course, Arsenal have another brilliant option in Ben White but they will lack cover in the position with Tomiyasu out.

The defender also provides cover for Oleksandr Zinchenko on the opposite side and with Jurrien Timber also sidelined, Arteta is alarmingly short of options at full-back.

The Gunners do have Cedric Soares who can fill in at right-back, while Jakub Kiwior was used as a left-back at Luton on Tuesday.

But Arteta will undoubtedly be hopeful of getting Tomiyasu back sooner rather than later.
