Arsenal's Granit Xhaka annoyed with Switzerland teammates in win

Swiss outlet 20 Minuten claimed that Arsenal star Granit Xhaka was left annoyed with some of his Switzerland teammates during their win over Cameroon in their opening game of the World Cup.

Breel Embolo scored the only goal – against the country of his birth – as the Euro 2020 quarter-finalists got off to a promising start.

Obviously, the result was the most important thing for Switzerland. But it was not the best performance against the Indomitable Lions. And they were fortunate at times. Cameroon were not able to make the most of their opportunities.

And it seems that the Swiss side’s display left Xhaka frustrated.

His own showing was given a 4/6 rating by 20 Minuten. But they did pick up on how Xhaka was not entirely with his teammates during the narrow victory.

“The captain had to conduct his players loudly several times, sometimes seemed annoyed by the inaccuracies and disorder in the first half. Showed a solid performance himself,” 20 Minuten wrote.

Xhaka demands so much of his teammates – as Arsenal supporters know. Reports from Football London earlier this season suggested that he lost his cool with Takehiro Tomiyasu during the win over Leeds. And that was because the Japan international had simply decided to pass the ball backwards rather than attempt to go forwards.

He praises those around them when they do things well. Xhaka appears to be enjoying his football at club level more right now than at any other time in his Arsenal career.

But he is an emotional character. Sometimes that lands him in trouble. However, he is clearly desperate to be success, whether that be for Arsenal or Switzerland.

And, with Brazil lying ahead, Xhaka will know that his country will need to be a lot better if they hope to maintain their unbeaten start to the tournament and put one foot in the knockout stages in Qatar.
