Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar was absolutely delighted last night after Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison fired Brazil to victory at the World Cup.
Tite’s men are one of the favourites to go all the way in the competition this year. He named a strong XI against Serbia yesterday, and as the world waited for Neymar to deliver on the big stage, it was Richarlison who stepped up.

Arsenal’s Edu Gaspar sends message to Tottenham star Richarlison after Brazil win
Brazil went into the game against Serbia as the favourites last night, but Dragan Stojkovic’s team are a few people’s dark horses at the World Cup this year.
However, the Selecao controlled the fixture from start to finish. They couldn’t quite get past the Serbian defence in the first half, but Richarlison made the difference after the break.
The Tottenham man displayed his poacher’s instinct inside the box for his first goal. He tapped the ball into the back of the net after Vinicius Jr’s shot was saved to put Brazil ahead.
His second goal, however, was just brilliant. He improvised after receiving a difficult pall and smashed home an acrobatic volley to seal the game for his country in Qatar.
Brazilians across the world were absolutely delighted with Richarlison last night. Even Edu, whose club allegiances force him to dislike a Tottenham player, decided to support the Spurs man following his brace.
‘Pra cimaaaaaaaa’ he commented on Richarlison’s Instagram post, which translates to ‘Up!’
Edu tried to sign Richarlison for Arsenal
Back in the summer transfer window, both Arsenal and Tottenham were keen to sign a new attacker. The Gunners got Gabriel Jesus through the door, while Spurs managed to snap up Richarlison in a deal worth £60 million (Sky Sports).
Both clubs are really happy with their respective deals now, but if reports in the summer were to be believed, Edu was interested in bringing Richarlison to the Emirates.
Goal reported back in June that Arsenal made contact with the attacker’s agents to discuss a potential move, Journalist Pete O’Rourke then revealed that Edu would try to use his Brazilian connections to convince Richarlison to join Arsenal over Tottenham.
No move materialised in the end and Richarlison ended up moving to Spurs. He’s absolutely adored there now.
