According to a recent report by The Mirror, Arsenal want Marc Overmars to take over from Sven Mislintat as the new Technical Director.
Overmars is the current Ajax Director of Football and he would be in charge of recruitment if he rejoined Arsenal as a member of the backroom staff.
And the Dutchman has revealed who his first signing would be if he moved to another club. His answer will have Arsenal fans licking their lips.
In an interview with Spanish media outlet AS Sport, Overmars raved about Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt and claimed he would try to sign him if he moved club.
This would be a perfect move for Arsenal as de Ligt could solve their problems in central defence.
Laurent Koscielny is injury prone, Shkodran Mustafi’s form has been poor and Rob Holding has been out all season.
The Gunners need another top class central defender to take them forward in the coming years and de Ligt would be the ideal choice.
The 19-year-old already has over 100 games of experience at Ajax, including in the Champions League. And at such a young age, the talented teenager has the world at his feet.
Arsenal could help the 13-cap Netherlands international develop into one of the best defenders in the world.
And he could help the Gunners compete for the title once more if they can build a team around him with Overmars’ recruitment.
