Bernd Leno has told Twitch that he believes that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will still be an Arsenal player once the summer transfer window has concluded.
The issue of Aubameyang’s future looks to be one of the most pressing concerns for Mikel Arteta regarding matters on the pitch at the Emirates right now.
Spanish outlet Sport has reported that his contract with the Gunners expires in 2021, and he has, so far, refused to pen fresh terms with the Premier League side.
The same report noted that Barcelona have included the Gabon international on their summer wishlist. And Arsenal are reportedly prepared to let him leave for at least £50 million.
The report may worry some of the Arsenal fans who would rather see the Gunners take a gamble and hold onto the captain and risk losing him for free next summer.
But Leno has made an encouraging claim about his teammate’s future.
“I don’t know what they are going to do,” he said on Twitch, when asked about Arsenal’s potential summer plans.
“But if he leaves, of course, you need another player.
“But I think he’s going to stay.”
Leno may have a better idea than most about what Aubameyang may be thinking. So it could well be positive news that he believes that he will stay.
Of course, he was hardly going to suggest that he will be leaving. But he did not need to make any sort of prediction either if he had strong doubts.
Keeping Aubameyang would be a fantastic move for Arsenal. And he arguably has the ability to get the club into the position next season that makes signing a new contract a much more tempting proposition.
