Teenage striker Alfie Matthews has hinted at a “big move” on Instagram as the Arsenal youngster is being reportedly eyed by Newcastle United ahead of the summer window.
Matthews, 18, has risen through Arsenal’s academy to the Under-18 stage and was a regular for the club’s Under-18 side throughout the 2019-20 season – clocking up 15 appearances and scoring five goals.
Matthews was also a member of the FA Youth Cup side but his future now looks somewhat clouded ahead of the summer window. Football London have claimed that Newcastle are taking an interest, and want to add him to their academy squad.
Now, the teenager – who is represented by the same agent as Toon outcast Achraf Lazaar (TransferMarkt) – has hinted on his Instagram story that he could be on the “move” in the near future.

TBR’s view – Should Arsenal let Matthews go?
At the age if 18, Matthews needs to be looking at potentially breaking into the senior side or at least going on loan. If he is to have any chance of becoming a regular at least for an Under-23 side, a move to Newcastle should be considered.
Arsenal boast Eddie Nketiah, Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang, Alexandre Lacazette and Gabriel Martinelli in the senior side – meanwhile, the club’s Under-23 side have Folarin Balogun and Tyreece John-Jules.
Enormous competition, then. But at Newcastle, he would have a much stronger chance of playing for the Under-23 side – and that could either lead to a loan, or the chance to break into the senior team.
