Arsenal would love to sign 'fantastic' £60m PL talisman - journalist
Dean Jones has told The Football Terrace that Arsenal would love to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but they do not believe that they will be able to lure him away from Everton during the January transfer window.
The Gunners are certainly going to need to bring a striker in in one of the next two windows. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not been involved since their defeat to the Toffees. Meanwhile, both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer.
Dusan Vlahovic appears to be the name at the top of their wishlist. It was previously reported that Arsenal are prepared to part with upwards of £70 million to sign the Serbian.

But, understandably, he is not the only option on their radar. It was reported by the Daily Mail that Arsenal want Calvert-Lewin. That report noted that Everton would demand up to £60 million for him.
‘Somebody they’d love to get’
Calvert-Lewin’s season has been interrupted by injury. And without him, Everton have really struggled. The Toffees have won once since the end of September. And they are now without a manager with Rafa Benitez departing.
Some Arsenal fans may be hoping that the chaos at Goodison Park opens the door for the Gunners to make a move for Calvert-Lewin.
Jones suggested that the uncertainty has caught the eye of Arsenal. But they do not expect to have any joy should they make a move this month.
“The fact that Everton are in a mess right now means that Calvert-Lewin is definitely a focus for them, somebody that they’d love to get,” he told The Football Terrace.
“They don’t think it’s possible halfway through a season. Let’s see what they do in terms of getting in their next manager, because I think that will have a big say in what Calvert-Lewin does next.”
Everton would surely struggle to appoint top manager targets if Calvert-Lewin was sold to Arsenal this month
Everton have the stature to attract some big names to replace Rafa Benitez. However, that task will surely be a lot tougher if the Toffees sold Calvert-Lewin.
Of course, the new manager would have around £60 million to spend. But Calvert-Lewin is one of the few outstanding players in the current Everton squad. His form was labelled ‘fantastic‘ by Carlo Ancelotti last season.
So it is indeed hard to imagine the Toffees letting Calvert-Lewin join Arsenal this month.
