Arsenal are looking to finish the summer transfer window with a flourish as they aim to mount another Premier League title challenge.
A deal to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad has finally been agreed, with the Spanish midfielder set to sign a four-year contract at the club imminently.
Arsenal could also move for Joan Garcia if Aaron Ramsdale leaves, while there have been talks that they are also on the lookout for attacking reinforcements.
Now, it appears as if they’ve narrowed down on their target as they prepare to launch a stunning move for Nico Williams.
Arsenal plotting late move for Nico Williams

According to The Independent, Arsenal are willing to trigger Williams’s £48m release clause before the transfer deadline, although there is an acceptance that their efforts might prove to be futile.
The Spanish international was subject of interest from Barcelona but decided to stay at his boyhood club for the time being, having been given the number ten shirt by Athletic Bilbao.
Williams is Arsenal’s preferred candidate to reinforce their attack but the Gunners are willing to quickly shift focus to alternatives if they can’t sign him.
The report also states that Williams prefers to stay in Spain this summer, with his ‘medium-term’ aim being a move to fellow La Liga side Barcelona.
Williams would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal
Williams has been dubbed as a ‘world-class’ attacker by Optus Sport and did justice to those claims at Euro 2024 as he was included in the Team of the Tournament.
The 22-year-old scored twice and provided one assist as a young Spain team were crowned kings of the continent under Luis de la Fuente.
The Spaniard is undoubtedly one of the most exciting attackers in world football and could elevate Arsenal’s attack to new heights.
The Gunners have numbers in attack but only Bukayo Saka has delivered the desired end product consistently.
Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus flattered to deceive last season with just ten Premier League goals between them, while Kai Havertz’s tally of 13 league goals – although creditable – is not enough for a title-chasing team.
Williams is predominantly a left-winger and Arsenal are adequately stacked in that position.
However, he’s one of the biggest talents in world football at the moment and represents great value for money for £48m, which explains why the Gunners are pursuing a move for him.
