Arsenal have work to do in the summer transfer window.
As good as the Gunners have been this season, Sunday showed that there is still plenty of work to do in terms of reaching that next level.
The 2-0 loss to Aston Villa highlighted a number of issues in this Arsenal team, and one glaring problem appears to be in the midfield.
Kai Havertz, quite simply, isn’t a midfielder, and while Jorginho has been fantastic this season, the Italian isn’t getting any younger.
Arsenal probably need a midfielder this summer, and, by the sounds of it, they have a plan in mind.

Arsenal have a top midfield target
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal have a top midfield target in mind.
Indeed, Martin Zubimendi, a player Arsenal have long been linked with, is someone the Gunners are very keen to sign.
According to this report, Zubimendi is the top target, and there’s already a plan in place in terms of the type of contract Arsenal want to offer.
Arsenal’s contract offer to Martin Zubimendi
According to this report, Arsenal want to offer Zubimendi a five-year deal that would see him earn £115,000-a-week.
To put that into some sort of context, that deal would run until 2029 and he would be earning more than the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard.
If Zubimendi is on board with that offer then it should be rather easy for Arsenal to get this deal done. After all, the player is said to have a £60m release clause in his contract, so if those wheels are put into motion, it may be quite a straightforward deal for Arsenal to do come the summer.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as the transfer window edges closer as it sounds as though Arsenal are very serious about signing Zubimendi.
