Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer with plenty of names linked with a move to The Gunners – and one of those players is currently shining in Serie A.

Gabriel Jesus has only managed four Premier League goals this season and the Brazil star has admitted he has been playing with injuries for a while now, Kai Havertz is improving, but the German star isn’t a striker.

He’s better playing off a striker, but Arsenal lack that kind of no.9 that is able to hold the ball up and bring others into play. Eddie Nketiah is the one natural striker they have, but Nketiah is likely to be sold.

So, a new striker will be targeted in the summer. Victor Osimhen’s name is often bandied around, and with Napoli struggling this season – the Nigeria ace is more than likely to be on his way to a bigger club.

Other names include Ivan Toney, who is also expected to leave Brentford before the deadline. A player that Martin Keown is a big fan of, saying the England star has a bit of everything, certinaly physically.

But another name is that of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee. The 22-year-old is starring in a brilliant Bologna side that are pushing for the top four in Serie A – and an unlikely place in next term’s Champions League.

Zirkzee has been excellent. Wearing the captain’s armband on occasion under highly-rated manager Thiago Motta, he and the likes of Scottish star Lewis Ferguson are the driving force in this Bologna side.

A player that has the technical class and strength that has seen him compared to Dennis Bergkamp in the past. It has been claimed Arsenal are interested in Zirkzee, who has had a hand in 17 goals in 32 games.

What Zirkzee feels about a possible move to England and Arsenal

Indeed, a previous report says Arsenal are even readying a £99k-a-week contract offer to land Zirkzee. But now, an update on striker Zirkzee from transfer expert Dean Jones on Sports Lens, on Tuesday afternoon.

Jones says that both Arsenal and Manchester United want to sign the £45m-rated striker this summer, but face competition from AC Milan and Juventus. Indeed, it is Zirkzee’s stance that comes as a bit of a blow.

It is said Zirkzee would rather remain in Italy than move to English football. Perhaps, because it is where he is and he feels his style of play suits Italy more so than it does the rough and tumble of England.

Bologna will obviously prefer to sell him to a foreign club if at all possible, rather than having to play against him next season. That could help Arsenal – but the star’s stance is a blow for Arsenal and United.
