Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are planning to follow Tottenham Hotspur’s lead regarding a potential deal for Goncalo Inacio in the January transfer window.

That is according to Jornal de Notícias, which has noted how Arsenal plan to sign Inacio from Sporting Lisbon.

So, what has been reported about Arsenal and Goncalo Inacio? Let’s take a look.

Arsenal plan loan + buy deal for Goncalo Inacio

Well, according to Jornal de Notícias, Arsenal are interested in signing Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window.

The report has noted interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Real Madrid in Inacio as well.

Arsenal plan to get ahead of all those clubs by making a loan bid for Inacio with the obligation to make the deal permanent at the end ofthe season.

According to Jornal de Notícias, Arsenal will propose to sign the defender on loan from Sporting in the January transfer window.

The Gunners will include a mandatory purchase option at the end of the season. Arsenal know that Sporting want €60 million (£52.09 million) for the defender, and they are willing to pay it, but only in the summer of 2024.

The report has noted that the deal that Arsenal plan to propose for Inacio is similar to the one that saw Pedro Porro move to Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur signed the right-back on a loan deal from Sporting in January 2023 for €5 million (£4.34 million) that included a mandatory purchase clause of €40 million (£34.73 million).

Arsenal’s plan may not work

I do not think that Arsenal will be able to convince Sporting Lisbon to send them Goncalo Inacio on a loan deal in January.

After all, Sporting are aiming to win the Portuguese Primeira Liga title this season. They will not want to sell any of their important players, and that includes Inacio, and certainly not on a loan deal.

I think that if Arsenal, who could bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, are to do a deal for the 22-year-old Portugal international central defender in the January transfer window, then it has to be a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk has reported that Arsenal could sell Eddie Nketiah, Thomas Partey and Jakub Kiwior in the January transfer window.

The report has noted that “insiders around” Arsenal “believe” that even though right now the Gunners are not willing to offload striker Nketiah, midfielder Partey or defender Kiwior next month, they could change their stance to raise funds to bring in a striker.
