London club want £17m-rated enforcer, Tottenham fans should be seriously angry - TBR View
Tottenham are the favourites to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, although Arsenal are now among the clubs keen to sign the Japanese star.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Gunners are now in the race to sign the versatile defender. Tottenham, however, are the favourites and can’t afford to let this one slip through the net.
Nuno Espirito Santo needs defenders and he has to prioritise them this summer. The current crop of central defenders weren’t good enough last season and reinforcements are needed.
The beauty of signing Tomiyasu is perhaps his versatility. He operates primarily as a central defender, but can also fill in as a right-back.
Spurs wouldn’t begrudge another option on the right-hand side of their defence. Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty both had erratic moments last season.
As a result, Tottenham fans would be well within their rights to feel aggrieved if Fabio Paratici doesn’t get this deal over the line. Losing out to Arsenal would just be an added dousing of fuel to the fire.
It is claimed that Tomiyasu will cost £17 million and that is a snip. At 22 he has bags of potential and already boasts a lot of first-team experience.
Why must Tottenham beat Arsenal to Tomiyasu?
Tottenham’s need for a versatile defender is far greater than that of their rivals. Spurs will have ambitions of reaching the Champions League and Tomiyasu could help them achieve that.
Spurs can’t afford to let this opportunity slip. Their search for a manager has seen plenty grow disillusioned with the club. Now, Espirito Santo must get the transfer business spot on.
Losing out to Arsenal on a key target wouldn’t be a great start to the window. As a result, Tottenham have to act to avoid upsetting an already fragile fan base.
