Arsenal want 63-cap star who Carlo Ancelotti labelled a 'complete midfielder'

Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Poland and Napoli midfielder, Piotr Zielinski, according to reports from Italy yesterday.

Il Mattino have made the claim, suggesting that Zielinski is now on the radar of Arsenal. The Gunners are in the middle of a huge summer overhaul, and the Polish star is said to be on Edu and Arteta’s list.

Zielinski has made over 250 appearances in Serie A. His consistency and versatility has made him a crucial player in Naples.

The Polish star has won 63 caps for his country. At 27, he is in the category of player who has plenty of experience, but should also be hitting his peak in the coming seasons.

For Arsenal, Zielinski could well be the type of energetic and all-action player the club needs. Indeed, his former manager, Carlo Ancelotti, was full of praise for him in the past.

What Ancelotti said about Zielinski

Former Everton boss Ancelotti enjoyed a fine spell alongside Zielinski in Napoli. He was a regular for the Italian boss, and was a key player.

And Ancelotti, who moved to Real Madrid this summer, said that while Zielinski has it all, he does need to add consistency.

“Zielinski is a complete midfielder, he played in all positions with me,” Ancelotti said, per Football Italia.

“But he has always lacked continuity, despite his great qualities. He is dynamic and skilled with the ball. What he has lacked, is the continuity of his performance.”

Indeed, Zielinski was a target for Ancelotti while he was with Everton back in 2019.

Perfect Arsenal signing?

Arsenal need players who can make a difference. This summer is all about getting it right for the Gunners. Question marks, then, will be there over Zielinski.

At 27, he’s not the youngest and that seems to be the type of player Arsenal want to go for this summer. Sure, Zielinski is in his prime, but whether he is good enough to really impact the Gunners is another matter.
