Report: Arsenal get boost in pursuit of £30m-rated PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku

The Gunners look set to be very busy in the transfer market this summer.

Le Parisien are reporting that PSG midfielder Christopher Nkunku is refusing to sign a new contract with the French champions, placing Arsenal on red alert over a £30 million transfer.

The Gunners might not have a great deal to play with during the summer. The Daily Mail has previously reported a transfer kitty of just £45 million for boss Unai Emery.

Nkunku is a central midfielder and with Aaron Ramsey heading for Juventus, it is easy to see why he has been targeted.

The 21-year-old has found regular football hard to come by this season.

He has been used sparingly by boss Thomas Tuchel, often entering games a substitute.

A France under-21 international, Le Parisien claim that with his contract up in 2020, he could be allowed to leave this summer.

Nkunku played more frequently in Emery’s PSG team and he is likely to welcome a reunion with his former boss.

TBR Verdict

With Ramsey set to depart, midfield additions will be a must for Emery.

Nkunku will be an unknown quantity for Arsenal supporters but the Spanish boss clearly rates him highly.

The youngster hasn’t featured at all for PSG in the Champions League this season and the lure of European football at the Emirates will be a big attraction.

There might be an underwhelming sense of feeling among the Gunners faithful.

Nkunku isn’t exactly a household name in the world of football and a more proven performer might have been preferred.

His signing would see the Gunners land another young player with one eye on the future. If Arsenal are going to challenge for immediate honours, then Emery will know he needs some stellar additions to arrive too.
