Arsenal have been handed a triple boost ahead of their Premier League match against Swansea City. It is important that the club get their league campaign back on track after some disappointing results. According to the IB Times, Mesut Ozil, Kieran Gibbs and Hector Bellerin are all set to return against Swansea. That will provide Arsene Wenger with more options and the return of Ozil seems particularly important. Arsenal are a much better side with the German in the team, even when he doesn’t play particularly well himself. His presence on the pitch creates space for others and it will be a welcome return for him on Saturday.
It will also be good for the Gunners to have Hector Bellerin back. Although he performed poorly against Bournemouth in the club’s last outing in the Premier League, there is nobody else in the squad that is good enough to cover for him. He provides an excellent attacking outlet and the club will be hoping that he learns from the Bournemouth performance and continues to improve over the coming months. Arsenal will be facing one of the teams in the relegation fight, but Swansea have caused them trouble down the years and it is important that they avoid another setback in the league. They simply must win.
There is unlikely to be any huge transfer moves this month, as that is not the way Arsene Wenger does things. However, there are reports linking the club with PSG attacker Lucas Moura. It is suggested that the Gunners have opened discussions over a move for the Brazilian and that would be well received by the Arsenal fans. He is quick, skilful and has very good end product in the final third. Although the attacking positions are well covered at Arsenal, Lucas would provide a more dynamic and consistent option. The 24-year-old’s contract expires in 2019 and it is possible that he will seek a move away from Paris.
The problem for this one is the fee that it would involve. Lucas has been an important player for PSG this season and they will not want to lose him half-way through a campaign. This seems little more than paper talk at the moment and there is little evidence to suggest Arsenal are ready to sanction a huge transfer like this. Wenger seems relatively happy with his squad, but there is no doubting that Lucas would be a quality addition. It could be exactly what the club need to rebuild momentum, but I don’t expect this one to happen.
Finally, another name to be mentioned this morning is Sead Kolasinac, the Schalke left back. He has previously been linked with Liverpool and Juventus, but Arsenal have now joined the race and are keen the land the Bosnian in the summer. The 23-year-old will be free to join any side in the summer on a free transfer and the race for his signature is heating up. He is a complete full back, capable of retrieving the ball and contributing in the attacking half. This season, he has averaged 6.2 ball retrievals per game, in addition to scoring two goals and contributing four assists.
It is easy to see why so many clubs are interested in the full back, who is also capable of playing on the left wing. Arsenal need a better left back as Nacho Monreal is progressing in age, while Kieran Gibbs is likely to leave the club in the summer. Kolasinac would be a low risk signing as he will be a free agent and he has done enough in the Bundesliga to show that he can develop into an excellent modern day full-back.
