Report: 'Exceptional' midfielder wants Arsenal move, but one PL rival is prioritising him

Arsenal transfer speculation is high in wake of a poor season for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s charges went into the 2020-21 campaign with the FA Cup and Community Shield to their name.

Arsenal made several great signings, like Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes.

In addition, Hale End graduates Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe cemented first-team places.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Despite all this, plus Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension, Arsenal couldn’t even land a European place.

If the Gunners were after a top midfielder, they could do much worse than Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

Arsenal reportedly eyed the 24-year-old in January.

According to football.london, Arsenal made contact with Michael N’Cho, Bissouma’s agent, during the winter transfer window.

The report also claimed he would choose the Gunners over any other Premier League club if they came in for him.

Now, football.london has reported that Bissouma has instructed N’Cho to try and get him to the Emirates Stadium.

However, one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals appear to be lurking.

According to GFFN, Leicester City are prioritising Bissouma in case Wilfred Ndidi leaves the King Power this summer.

Brighton are apparently seeking 35m euro, or £30m, for Bissouma’s signature.

In addition, GFFN claims “other Premier League clubs” are eyeing the Seagulls ace.

Arsenal transfer view: Gunners can’t miss out on “exceptional” player

Bissouma looked a cut above for the Seagulls for all of last season.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions, of which 36 came in the Premier League.

Bissouma’s Whoscored ratings for 2020-21 are impressive – 7.01 from 31 appearances in CM and 6.99 from four at DMC.

One of the Malian’s displays, in the 0-0 draw with Everton in April, prompted this compliment from Gary Lineker.

With Granit Xhaka likely off to Roma, Arsenal should consider swooping in for Bissouma.

But with Leicester on standby in case Ndidi goes, the Gunners shouldn’t let this opportunity go to waste.
