Arsenal transfer: Report claims PL rival's £35k-a-week Player of the Year understood to be keen on Gunners move
Arsenal have received a big boost as they consider a move for Ben White in the transfer window, with the Daily Mail reporting that positive talks have been held.
The Gunners are monitoring White as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his centre-back options.
White has enjoyed a superb first campaign in the Premier League. He ended the season as Brighton’s Player of the Year and earned a place in the final England squad for Euro 2020.
Understandably, Brighton are looking for a huge fee for the 23-year-old. According to the Daily Mail, his asking price is £50 million.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal are prepared to go anywhere near that figure. But there are a couple of reasons for encouragement for Gunners fans.
The report claims that positive talks have been held.
And interestingly, the Daily Mail also suggests that White – who earns £35,000-a-week – is understood to be keen on the move.
Arsenal could make huge statement if they complete White transfer
You could understand if some Arsenal fans had their doubts. White is potentially set to command a huge fee off the back of just one season at the highest level.
But he has raised his game every year for several seasons now. He had just finished a stint in League Two this time three years ago.
He has since impressed in League One, the Championship, Premier League, and on the international stage.
And there is still room for improvement. He is comfortable playing in a back two or three, and can play on the right or left.
It would therefore, be a huge statement if Arsenal managed to land his signature.
The early signs would suggest that the Gunners could certainly could give it a good go.
