Arsenal transfer news: William Saliba says he's really happy at the club amid contract talks

Arsenal defender William Saliba has reiterated how happy he is at the club, and suggested he wants to stay at The Emirates.

Saliba was speaking to the Evening Standard after the Gunners did the double over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

The £27m defender kept an important clean sheet as Harry Kane and co. failed to find the back of the net.

Saliba has been a revelation at Arsenal this season, after his future at the club looked in doubt.

After a number of loans away from the club, Mikel Arteta put his faith in Saliba on the opening day of the season.

He hasn’t looked back, and Saliba’s impressive performances earned him a place in France’s World Cup squad.

One of the big talking points at Arsenal this season has been the contract situation of some of their best young players.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli as well as Saliba have been in discussions with the club.

A report from 90min suggests that Saliba has rejected his latest offer from the club.

However, Saliba has now talked about how happy he is at Arsenal after yesterday’s win.

Saliba is so happy at Arsenal

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Saliba said: “I am so happy here.

“The club is speaking with my agent and me, the only thing I can do is [focus on my football]. I am so happy here.”

Saliba’s form has dipped slightly since the World Cup, with his performance against Brighton questioned.

The 21-year-old appears to really benefit from consistent minutes, which he was lacking in Qatar.

He put in a great performance yesterday against Tottenham, playing as the deeper of two centre-backs as Gabriel Magalhaes aggressively marked Harry Kane.

Saliba is the sort of player Arteta could build his defence around for years to come.

Agreeing a new contract in the next few months is vital.

PSG have already registered an interest in Saliba, and more clubs will approach him if his contract continues to run down.

So, it’s brilliant news for Arteta and Edu to hear how happy Saliba is at Arsenal right now.
