Arsenal transfer: Gunners misfit wants to join Ligue 1 outfit
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal misfit Matteo Guendouzi wants to join Marseille this summer. The youngster spent the 2020/21 campaign out on loan with Hertha Berlin.
Now, the transfer guru has suggested that the midfield general wants an Arsenal departure during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners took the young Frenchman from Lorient in July 2018. He was signed by Unai Emery and initially looked a snip for £10 million.
STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.
Arsenal do stand to make a small profit from selling Guendouzi. If they could get rid of him this summer he’d fetch around £13 million.
Interestingly, the youngster could sign a new deal. The 22-year-old is out of contract next summer and Arsenal’s position isn’t overly strong. Getting him to pen a new deal would still allow the Gunners to recoup a decent transfer fee.
Guendouzi has never truly impressed Mikel Arteta. He made just eight appearances under the Spaniard before being banished from the team.
He was loaned out last season, making 24 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring twice and registering as many assists.
Guendouzi looks to have played his last game for the Gunners. Arteta is on the hunt for midfielders and funds will be raised with his departure.
He has made 82 appearances for Arsenal in total, scoring once and claiming five assists. Now, his days at the Emirates Stadium look numbered.
Offloading Guendouzi is best for Arsenal
Forget the new contract, if Marseille are willing to part with £13 million for Guendouzi, the Gunners should take the money and run.
At 22 he does still have potential but he’s not exactly set the Premier League alight during his time in North London.
Arsenal might not be in a strong position. Guendouzi’s contract situation is a worry, although it makes the need to sell all the more important.
The £40,000-a-week maestro has zero future at Arsenal. With that in mind, the club must act to offload him this summer.
